Where can I find Vegan Pizza in Taiwan?

Three years ago, we decided to collaborate with Moonlab foods, shake things up a bit and offer one pizza that was Vegan. Fast forward to today and when you walk into Gusto Pizza you'll find a separate menu just for those who are vegan or would like to try something different.

 

As Taiwan’s only halal, sourdough pizzeria it might not make sense that we'd add vegan options to our store. But those looking for halal or vegan food shared similar difficulties at the time with food choices, high prices and no real Italian handmade pizza. With this shared challenge and keeping with our philosophy of traditional handmade Neapolitan pizza, lots of creativity, passion and love we decided to give vegan pizza a chance. 

 

Our first vegan creation "The Moonlab Vegan" was a hit. Combining roasted peppers, mushroom, Italian sundried tomato, friarielli, rocket and Moonlabs outstanding vegan cheese, all sitting on top of our signature sourdough pizza crust.... wow! You guys loved it and pushed us for more unique offerings. So we got to work and continued with more monthly specials, then a new vegan pizza section and now a second menu with vegan pizza, sides and dips.

 

The journey to this point has presented some unique challenges and we are always trying to adapt and improve in every area. The key one being was that vegan food is misunderstood here in Taiwan. For some Vegan is completely plant based, for others its vegetarian and for others its vegetarian but no heavy flavored root vegetables due to religious beliefs. Despite this religious, cultural and linguistic difference in the understanding of Veganism in Taiwan, the team knew how to handle it as we operate to strict religious and dietary requirements of Islam and halal food.
